Panels are a great choice when you don’t want to cut a hole in your doors, walls or if you are living in a rental. Panels can move with you. While most panels are mounted on the side of the sliding door that opens, I prefer to mount my panels on the stationary side. I add a thicker weather stripping and use the stationary glass to compress the panel for a snugger fit. This also allows your door to lock normally. I believe this gives you a more secure set up. Remember, you will lose usable space to pass through your door. Always have a dowel in the bottom track, a security pin or a “Charlie Bar” added for your safety. To measure your door, use a tape measure in the grooves of the track and measure bottom to top.
